BASE publishes original papers in the fields of life sciences: environmental science and technology, forest and natural space management, agronomical science, and chemistry and bio-industries.

Why BASE?

1. Published in two languages

BASE publishes papers written in French or in English. Titles, abstracts, keywords and captions are written in both languages.

2. Backed by prestigious institutions

Published by the non-profit organization les Presses agronomiques de Gembloux, BASE comes under the scientific authority of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (GxABT) - University of Liege (ULg) and of the Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W). BASE is also funded by the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW - APE service).

BASE has been published since 1932, under various titles: from 1932 to 1965, it was published under the title "Bulletin de l'Institut Agronomique et des Stations de Recherches de Gembloux" and from 1966 to 1995 under the title "Bulletin des Recherches Agronomiques de Gembloux" (ISSN 0435-2033). Volume 1 of BASE was published in 1997.

3. Provides Open Access (gold OA)

BASE in member of OASPA (Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association).  All papers appearing in BASE are published with free and open access to the full text (platinium OA) under the Creative Commons license (CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.en at no charge. The author retains his rights and has the right to publicly self-archive his/her article (green OA) in the editor's post- print version (see: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/issn/1370-6233/).

4. Indexing

BASE is indexed in the main generalist and specialized databases: AGRIS, AGRICOLA, Biological Abstracts, BIOSIS Previews, CABI, Chemical Abstracts, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Environment Complete, FSTA, Inside, Journal Citation Report, PASCAL, Paperity, ProQuest Environmental Science Collection, Scopus, Web of Science (SciSearch) and Zoological Record.

5. Ethics

BASE is member of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).BASE is particularly attentive to ethical aspects. The editorial Board considers any criticisms and complaints that it receives. He will settle any disputes between readers, the authors and the journal.

BASE follow the COPE « code of conduct for journal publishers » and « The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity » (ALLEA).

6. Frequency of publication

BASE is published quarterly, in March, June, September and December. BASE also publishes proceedings of conferences (special issues).

7. Impact factor and citations

BASE is included in the Science Citation Index and Journal Citation Reports since 2008. The latest impact factor is the 2020 one and is of 1.087 (Q2 for AGRONOMY).

Since june 1, 2018, Scopus has reported 1076 citations of papers published between 2011 and 2017 in BASE (344 items published). The 2019 Scopus CiteScore is of 3.1

8. Impartial selection (peer review)

All manuscripts are submitted to at least two reviewers from the international scientific community. The reviewers are selected by the 15 members of the editorial board. For the period 2010-2014, the reviewing process resulted in an average rejection rate of 77.41%.

9. Writing aids

A writing manual is freely available to all authors (hdl.handle.net/2268/186181). The secretariat can also provide assistance to authors. All reviewed manuscripts are returned with extensive comments to allow authors to improve their work.

10. Wide dissemination

Since January 2020, the journal is no longer printed but only distributed electronically. All papers, from the first issue, are freely available on the PoPuPS portal (ULiège) and on the DOAJ.

The full texts of the papers are also included in several EBSCO and ProQuest databases and on TEEAL CD (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library), which are widely distributed in Africa.

11. Archiving

The journal is archived in the national electronic depository of the KBR (Belgium)
