GÉOCHIMIE ISOTOPIQUE DU SOUFRE DU GISEMENT DE BARITE DE FLEURUS (BELGIQUE)
Abstract
ABSTRACT. Sulphur isotope geochemistry of the Fleurus barite deposit (Belgium). The leaching of Givetian and/or Viséan evaporitic rocks by underground waters seems to be the most likely mechanism of sulphur supply in the Fleurus barite deposit. Indeed, such evaporitic rocks are known in deep drillholes at tens of kilometres west of Fleurus. The sulphur isotopic compositions of 5 barite samples from Fleurus vary from + 15,80 to + 22,10 %c± 0,1 %0 (average + 19,11 %0) vs CDT These ô34S values however do not allow distinguishing between a Givetian and a Viséan origin for the sulphur. ô34S values > +20 %0 are indeed comparable to those of the Givetian evaporitic rocks while ô34S values < 19 %o are similar to the Viséan data.
