La géologie de l'ingénieur appliquée à l'étude du site d'un métro dans le bed rock houiller à Liège
Abstract
The study of a subway site projected for the superior part of the coal-bearing bed rock of Liège, has aroused a considerable amount of geological, hydrogeological, and geomechanical research.
The results are set forth while successively treating the geology of the site, the water-tables, the mechanical properties of the rocks and the rocky massifs, the hardness and the abrasiveness of the different rocks. The obtained results are synthetized in the chapter Engineering Geology, which reunites for the ten sections distinguished in the lay-out as a function of the proper characteristics, the quantitative and qualitative information necessary to the consulting engineers.
The study tends to demonstrate the scientific and technological usefulness of the engineering geological research when the nature and the dimensions of the project call for the carrying out of a large-scale program of study on the terrain and in the laboratory.
